atTRACTION webinar highlights venture capital development in peripheral regions through the Andalusian experience

Málaga TechPark hosted a new session of the atTRACTION webinar series on 20 February, bringing together investors, policy experts and innovation leaders to examine how venture capital evolves in peripheral regions, with Andalusia presented as a leading case study.

The session, titled “Venture Capital Development in Peripheral Regions: The Case of Andalusia”, offered an in-depth look at the structural challenges and unique opportunities shaping investment activity outside traditional innovation hubs. Participants explored how regional strategies, public support mechanisms and private capital work together to build a thriving venture ecosystem capable of supporting Deep Tech companies.

The webinar featured insights from Jerónimo Béjar, who managed publicly backed investment funds in Andalusia from 2013 to 2023. Drawing on a decade of hands-on experience collaborating with European institutions and regional stakeholders, Béjar outlined the key factors that have enabled Andalusia to strengthen its investment landscape. He also shared current perspectives from his role as a partner at EONIQ.fund, a private venture capital firm focused on early-stage technology startups in Spain.

This session forms part of the broader atTRACTION initiative, which works to reinforce the European Deep Tech investment ecosystem by providing practical, experience-driven knowledge for investors and ecosystem actors. The discussion brought valuable clarity to how peripheral territories can attract capital, retain talent and build sustainable innovation pipelines.

Held in Spanish, the webinar took place from 12:00 to 13:00 CET and attracted a diverse audience from across Europe, demonstrating strong interest in understanding the dynamics of venture capital in developing regions.
